Kinhi-Gadegaon Reservoir revived in 90 Days

Ashok Leyland along with Hinduja Foundation, dedicated the rejuvenated Kinhi-Gadegaon Reservoir near our plant at Bhandara to the farmers of the village. The ceremony was held in the presence of Mr. Akshaya Poyam, Tahsildar Bhandara, Mr. M N Lakhote, General Manager (Operations), Bhandara, Mr. T. Sasikumar, Vice President-HR (PD) & CSR, Ashok Leyland and Mrs. Niyati Sareen, Director-Water, Hinduja Foundation.

We at Ashok Leyland along with Hinduja Foundation as a part of our CSR Project under the Jal Jeevan Programme had taken up the rejuvenation of the Kinhi-Gadegaon Reservoir partnering with the Environmentalist Foundation of India (E.F.I), in May 2019. Within the short span of three months, the reservoir and its surrounding water shed area of approximately 53 acres have been transformed at a cost of Rs 60 Lakhs. The reservoir is a unique water body with Koka wildlife sanctuary on one side and two villages of Kinhi and Gadegaon on the other. This restored reservoir is an integral part of the local community and as well as the flora and fauna.

As a part of the reservoir rejuvenation, Ashok Leyland planted 500 native saplings along the course of the offshore bund, strengthened the offshore by raising it to 4ft and maintained the foreshore for the wildlife in the adjoining forest to have access to the reservoir. The holding capacity of the reservoir has now been improved by 65%. Ashok Leyland is happy to see the restored reservoir receiving fresh inflow this monsoon, serving the farmers and endangered wildlife.
