Presenting the award, Fr. Thomas Amirtham S.J., Director, Loyola College, Chennai, said, “This year is very special for all of us associated with this legendary institution. Our college has being declared as the 2nd best College in India by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and we also celebrate the Centennial Year in 2025. The Loyola Alumni Association is proud to bestow the ‘Illustrious Alumni’ Award to Shri. N.V. Balachandar who has excelled in his vocation and lived as an example to our institution’s motto of Luceat Lux Vestra which means Let Your Light Shine. We wish him well and may he scale even greater heights.”
Expressing his gratitude on receiving the award, Mr. N.V. Balachandar, President - HR, Communication and CSR, said, “I am humbled and truly honored to receive this award from my alma mater. This is one of the most important milestones in my life and it is thrilling to be among the stalwarts who have been bestowed with this recognition. This further adds to my enthusiasm to continue on the path I have embarked on.”
Including Mr. Balachandar, the Award in 2017 has been given to five stalwarts. Other four recipients of the awards are Mr. A. M. Swaminathan, former Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu; Mr. Mano Selvanathan, successful and influential businessman from Sri Lanka; Mr. Ravindran, International President of Rotary International and Mr. Ramakrishnan, CFO of TCS.
About Mr. N.V. Balachandar:
Mr. N.V. Balachandar completed his MSW (HR) from Loyola College in 1988. Joining Indian Hotels (Taj Group of Hotels) as management trainee in 1988, he went on to become Regional Manager for Southern Region. He served as Corporate Manager of Human Resources in Seagram and as Vice President and Group HR Head for all publishing divisions of India Today and TV Today. Before joining Ashok Leyland, he served the Aditya Birla Group with distinction, for a decade from 2002 to 2012. At Aditya Birla, he became the President and Chief People Officer for its Textile, Fibre and Overseas Spinning businesses.
In his current role, he is successfully leading the Human Resource function of one the most innovative and sought after commercial vehicle Company in India. He has also spearheaded the creation and implementation of Ashok Leyland’s social responsibility objectives with a mission to positively impact the community and beyond.
